"Zufällig" means "Random" in German!!!

I haven't posted a blog in a while, so here are a bunch of small tidbits of randomness of what I have been doing over the past few weeks.

At our middle school I helped plan a Winter Ball and Etiquette Dinner. There were classes that you could take during our study hall period where you could learn proper etiquette, line dancing, and other important social skills.

I was on the decorating committee, and I think it looked pretty good if you ask me.

The dinner was a three-course meal: salad, pasta, and a dessert.

For entertainment during the dinner, kids from the school performed on the piano.

Weeks prior to the dance there was a snowflake competition to see who could make the best snowflake. But we used all of the snowflakes as decoration.

There were a ton of door prizes to give away!

So everybody stayed after school and got ready for the dinner and dance in the gym.

The girls went on one half, and the boys went on the other half...the girls took longer, so the boys were waiting...

After dinner, the DJ came to play music and we did a lot of line dancing.

And part of being on the decorating committee is cleaning up...We found this magic floating balloon just kind of in limbo.

Soon after, we took a Saturday trip to Nurnberg to meet up with my Mom's old college roommate.

Here they are - my Mom and Annette (and Kieran.) We got yummy bratwurst for lunch!!

So there is this big fountain in the middle of the main square in Nurnberg. It used to bring the fresh water to the people in the city. It looks like a big church steeple just sitting on the ground.

On the gate there is this gold ring that if you spin around 3 times, you are supposed to get good luck. Kieran is trying his luck.

This is the Kings Tower and castle in Nurnberg. It's on the top of the hill and you can see for miles. The Holy Roman Emperors used to stay here when they were in town.

There is a tunnel to the outside of the city wall. I think it goes under the moat.

HEXY! Just a random Hexy sighting.

Now I will tell you about the German tradition of Fasching. If you know anything about Carnaval or Mardi Gras, you will begin to understand Fasching. It's the time to have fun and let loose before Lent. It's almost like Halloween here, because all the kids dress up in costumes. At the American Elementary School they celebrate with a Fasching Parade. There is a theme every year and each class comes up with their own sub-theme. Kieran's class had the sub-theme of "Lewis and Clark." Kieran got to dress the part of Lewis.

Right when the parade started, it just started to sprinkle. There was a giant rainbow!

RAINBOW in NETZABERG! I got to watch the parade from my classroom window at the Middle School, since the schools are right next to each other.

The weather has been pretty nice here in Germany for winter. I think all our snow ended up in the United States this year, since they got extra. So it's nice enough to take a hike!
