El Sol

"El Sol" means "the sun" in Spanish!  This weekend we went to Alicante, Spain!

 

What we liked most about it was that it was warm and, well....not snowing!

 

 

They have palm trees here!

 

My dad likes taking pictures of weird tile things.

 

And in Alicante, they had plenty of it!

 

 

So this is a main walking path along the edge of the water.

 

 

Oooh!  Sunglasses!

 

Flowers were growing....No snow!

There were lots of little outdoor restaurants.

 

It was fun to walk around and look at all the different boats in the marina.

And of course, we went to the beach!

 

Because...who wouldn't?

We came back to the beach the next day to build sand castles.

 

It got pretty intense.

On the roof of our hotel.  Like, it was really cold.   At least it's not frozen like all the water in Germany!

 

Here's the finished product of Fort Soon-to-be-Washed-Away.  Pretty good, huh?

 

Well, not really... It's actually a real castle...not made out of sand.  It's probably going to stay there for a while.

 

It's called the Castle of Santa Barbara and it was built before 1200 AD, and it's still here.

 

Not washing away any time soon...

 

So, what do you know....We climbed it!

 

It looks out over the whole city of Alicante.

Next we went to a 2-second museum inside part of the castle where they had a bunch of broken pottery from different time periods glued to the wall.

 

Like, a lot of it!

 

And look!  A cannon!

Yeah, you saw this one coming!  Kieran blowing up imaginary evil pirate zombies coming to take over the world.

Hello Magic Fountains!  (That aren't actually magic.)

 

On Sunday we went to church in Spanish.  My mom loved it.  The rest of us were bored.  My small knowledge of German didn't help me much...

I don't know, because we haven't gone there yet....In fact, we haven't even left Alicante yet.  Getting on the plane early tomorrow, so I better get to bed.  Maybe I'll see you in Germany!  Back to the snow...Goodbye, Sun!
