églises

"églises" means churches in French!

While we were in Paris we went to two different churches.  This first one was Notre Dame.

 

 

We got there early so that it wouldn't be too crowded.  While we were waiting outside, the bells started to ring!

These are the gargoyles way up there.

 

Here's the front of the building.

 

It took almost 200 years to build this cathedral.

 

In this picture you can see the flying buttresses.  They support the building. 

 

We climbed up to the "gargoyle level" and here is the view.  (Notice the Eiffel Tower on the right!!!)

 

 

Here is Gargoyle Jeff.  He is bored.

 

Going from left to right, Gargoyle Steve, Bob, and Joe.  They are weird.

 

Here is a creepy gargoyle named Stan.

 

And here is the creepiest gargoyle of them all named Kieran.

 

I'm not sure this is a gargoyle, but it looks more like a crane.

 

This poor guy has terrible posture.  His name is Ralph.

 

Here is my favorite gargoyle:

 

They were running the Paris Marathon on the day we were there.  We could see the runners go by from up high on the top level of the cathedral.

 

After we came down from Notre Dame, we walked a few blocks down to San Chapelle, which is another famous church in Paris.

In fact, the whole entire church was just a bunch of windows.

 

I think the entire Bible was told in "comic style" pictures on all the windows.
