WARNING!
If you are not interested in Stonehenge, consider skipping this blog.
This post contains an insane amount of pictures of big rocks. Continue at your own risk.
When you go to Stonehenge, first you have to go to the Visitor's Center, where you get on a bus to drive out in the middle of a big field.
At the Visitor's Center you can see how they think people 5000 years ago moved the large stones into the formation. Kieran tried to pull the rock by himself, but he couldn't do it.
So this is Stonehenge.
But you can't go up close to see it. (Except for all those people who are in there looking at it!)
Luckily, we were one of those people! We were on a special tour early in the morning where you can walk in between the stones. It's a very small group that is allowed to go, and you have to make reservations months in advance, but it was pretty cool.
And you know what's coming...
Kieran jumping in front of Stonehenge!
So, yeah.......rocks......
The other side of rocks....
More rocks....oh, wait...that's Kieran.
A lot of people think that the Druids built Stonehenge, but it was actually much older than that. The Druids just used it years later.
Here's a good scale comparison so you can see how big the stones really are.
All around the site, you can see green little hills, that are ancient burial mounds.
So, yes, Stonehenge is built on an ancient burial ground.
The people who built Stonehenge actually knew quite a bit. Not only did they build this giant thing of rocks without modern technology or machines...
But they also lined up the stones just right so that the sun would rise perfectly aligned between two stones at the summer and winter solstices.
Wow! Look at that! A rock!
Look! Some Druids! Oh, wait...that's just me, Mom, and Kieran...
Some of the largest stones are said to have been brought from 25 miles north of the site. How did they get these big rocks here?
Wow! This post isn't over yet?
Nope. We still have more pictures of rocks.
How many different angles can you take?
Dramatic picture of rocks.
This was the most fun my Dad had the entire trip.
He was trigger happy for a whole hour!
Kieran and I just went and sat on the hill.
Oh, look! Shadows! (On a rock.)
My DAD's shadow! (On a rock.)
My mom...through some rocks...
He was having so much fun, my Mom said she had to take his picture in front of the rocks. (The shadow picture didn't count.)
I don't even know what to say any more.
Okay, it's bad pun time...
"Stonehenge ROCKS!"
Actually, it was pretty cool to go and walk in between the rocks.
But we were not allowed to touch the rocks, lean on the rocks, rub the rocks, push the rocks, lick the rocks, or kiss the rocks. (Apparently they have to be specific.)
So, yeah....Stonehenge.
Okay, let's think of something really original to end on...How about me and some rocks!
